ILM Programmes
ILM Leadership and Management qualifications support individuals and organisations to develop effective, confident leaders through practical, workplacefocused learning.
Qualifications are awarded by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), which is part of City & Guilds, a longestablished and internationally recognised awarding body. ILM qualifications are internationally recognised, not just in Ireland, and are valued by employers across the private, public and voluntary sectors.

ILM programmes can be bespoke and organisationled, rather than fixed or prescriptive.
Organisations can design programmes by selecting modules aligned to:
- Leading Self
- Leading Others
- Leading the Organisation
Modules can also be selected to develop capability in specific skills areas, including HR and people management, marketing and communications, finance, projects and change management.
While the leadership pillars align naturally with Levels 3, 4 and 5, modules are available across all levels. Programmes can place greater emphasis on particular skills where development needs have been identified.
We work with organisations to ensure the right modules, focus and level are selected to meet business and development objectives.
Teaching, learning and assessment are integrated and workplace focused.
Most modules are delivered over one to two days and are instructor led. Learners receive access to our Moodle learning platform, with learning resources available during and after delivery.
A preprogramme diagnostic self assessment supports tailoring of content and focus. Employer led programmes include a scoping session to align learning with organisational priorities, sector requirements and operational context. A post-programme review supports evaluation of impact.
Assessment is assignment based, with no written exams. Learners complete practical, work based assignments and reflective activities.
On completion, learners receive an ILM Award, Certificate or Diploma in their own name, issued by ILM as part of City & Guilds. These qualifications are internationally recognised and retained for life.
ILM qualifications align with the Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) as follows:
ILM Level 3 – equivalent to NFQ Level 5
ILM Level 4 – equivalent to NFQ Level 6
ILM Level 5 – equivalent to NFQ Level 7
Level 3 programmes are designed for team leaders, supervisors and aspiring managers who are new to leadership or people management.
Level 4 programmes support developing and middle managers with responsibility for people, projects or budgets.
Level 5 programmes are designed for experienced managers and leaders with responsibility for people, performance, resources and organisational direction.
ILM programmes are flexible and modular, allowing learners and organisations to tailor learning to real workplace needs.
Learners can complete:
- Standalone modules
- Awards
- Certificates
- Diplomas / Extended Diplomas
Standalone modules are suitable where a specific skill is required for a role, or where learners wish to build towards a larger qualification over time. Each module carries a credit value. By combining modules and accumulating credits, learners can progress to an Award, Certificate or Diploma.
Typical qualification sizes:
Award: 4–12 credits
Certificate: 13–36 credits
Diploma / Extended Diploma: 37+ credits (depending on level)
Modules can be combined to develop programmes focused on HR, marketing, finance, leadership capability or organisational development, or structured across the Leading Self, Leading Others and Leading the Organisation pillars.
ILM programmes offer a wide range of modules. Below is a sample menu by level. The sample modules listed below are not exhaustive.
